About Ducklings
Ducklings class, which is our largest, includes children from Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. EYFS learning continues throughout the children’s time in this class. We recognise that our learners, in their beginning stages of special education, require to be taught pre-requisite skills (‘learning to learn’) to access more formal education in the future.
The curriculum is play based and designed to support children developing their attention skills, interactions with others and independent self-help skills. Staff teach early literacy, phonics and early numeracy through irresistible adult led sessions and engaging continuous provision.
In essence, the design of provision in Ducklings class enables children to:
· Communicate their needs and wants
· Focus their attention
· Be independent in simple self-care tasks
· Take turns
· Develop strategies to self-regulate
· Develop body awareness, core strength and fine and gross motor skills
· Develop knowledge of early literacy and maths skills
