Design and Technology at Radstock Primary School allows all pupils to build on technical knowledge to design, make and evaluate products linking to our Learning Projects. D&T encourages them to problem solve creatively to meet their design criteria which allows them to create high-quality end products.
They are expected to design functional and appealing products that are fit for purpose. Selecting from and using a wide range of tools and materials, they create their product focusing on a specific technical skill that has been taught. Following this, they analyse and evaluate their product against their design criteria and ways to improve. The children also learn about key events and designers who have helped shape the world.
As part of the Design and Technology curriculum, they learn how to cook and apply the principles of nutrition and healthy eating (Cooking and nutrition). Through this, the children gain an understanding of a healthy and varied diet, how to prepare and cook savoury dishes, as well as where and how foods are grown.
